Use of a lie detector in employment

Extreme or necessary?

According to the famous proverb: "Trust, but verify." However, not everyone agrees to pass such a test. And the thing is not always that a person has something to hide. For many, a lie detector test is an invasion of privacy, and few people like the fact of such control, and can be recognized as excessive distrust.

But, often the questions do not apply to personal life, but affect only professional activities. Testing is carried out by a specialist and lasts from an hour and a half. Lie detector testing is a very time-consuming procedure. The test should be as individual as possible. To do this, a preliminary conversation is held with the candidate to determine his fears and the most exciting moments that may violate the validity of the check. Of particular importance in the verification is the correctness of the formulation of questions.

The use of the polygraph is subject to multiple criticisms. The method is accused of a too simplified scheme for interpreting the body's reactions to external stimuli, in addition, during the examination, various factors affecting the indicators may not be taken into account. However, this method can determine the validity of certain actions or events.

Polygraph testing is carried out with the consent of the candidate - this is your choice. Alas, if you refuse, trust in you will already be undermined, as the employer will believe that you really have something to hide, even if it is not.
Law

At the moment, there is no legislative base in Ukraine that would regulate the use of the polygraph. Thus, the principle of "what is not prohibited is permitted" works. Since conducting a lie detector test does not violate human rights, it does not contradict the current legal framework and legal norms of the law.

An audit is not possible without the written consent of the candidate. Refusal of verification cannot be the reason for dismissal. In this case, the dismissal can be appealed in court, but it is necessary to prove the dismissal precisely for this reason, the employer, in turn, can provide others.
